Soon, if you can find it, the cost will be as much as $500.00 per Lb. 

There are mainly two types of refrigerant for the home air conditioning systems of today. The older refrigerant, R-22 Freon, (HCFC22) which is being phased out and the newer refrigerant 410A. The Old R-22 is still in many of the air conditioning systems and is still the main refrigerant used for home air conditioning systems. The R-22 Freon was a great refrigerant for efficiency, however, not quite as safe to the ozone as the newer 410A refrigerant. Thus, the EPA has ruled that all new home air conditioners must be made with 410A refrigerant as of 2015. 

The R-22 Freon Phase-out.

As of Jan. 1st, 2020 Freon will only be sold from stock-piles. 

In some cases the R-22 Freon will be reclaimed, recycled, filtered and re-sold. However, its going to get very expensive and will be hard to come by. In short. R-22 Freon is going away for good. 

What this means to you!

If you have an older R-22 Freon Air Conditioner or Heat Pump, with Freon on the brink of going extinct, we will have little options if your system is low, or out of Freon. 

If you need a major repair such as replacing a compressor or a coil, we can convert over to a different refrigerant, although its not quite as efficient and may not cool as well. 

This means higher electric bills, less comfort when very hot outside and even possible issues with how the compressor will function. Its not the best option, however it is available. 

If you need a major repair, your best bet is to simply replace the old air conditioner with a new system, that is already set with 410A refrigerant. Of course, the cost to replace a new air conditioning system these days is as much as $20,000.00 depending on the type and quality, with the normal replacement costs around $8,000.00 - $10,000.00.

Freon Leaks. 

Typically we can find and repair a refrigerant leak, replace the missing Freon and call it done. However, is it really worth it? Not to mention, by the time your reading this, will it even be available? Our advise is that if you think you may have a Freon leak, get it checked as soon as possible. A Freon leak can be either a slow leak or a fast leak. It can result from a rusted coil or a rubbing copper tube in the ac unit. It may even a leak from the Freon valve. R-22 Freon can be replaced if you have a slow leak. 

Soon, we won't have the old R-22 Freon to use anymore. We don't know for sure when it will be gone, only that it will be soon

Converting to a newer refrigerant:

A serious and detailed process, however a good alternative for those selling a home, or on a tight budget. Replacing the air conditioner is also a option.
